How we measure HVAC company websites

The data behind the figures on our guides and city pages: who is in it, what each number means, and where it falls short.

On October 17 and 18, 2026, Urilio measured the websites of 4,918 US HVAC companies that run Google Ads, found through Google Maps searches for heating and air conditioning in 805 US cities. Every figure on this site that says "we measured" comes from this data.

What we found

FigureAll 4,918 sites
Median time to show the main content on a phone7.8 s (Google's "good" mark is 2.5 s)
Main content took longer than 4 seconds79% of 4,562 speed-tested sites
No Google rating shown on the page74%
No form on the page43%
Menu with 40 or more links45%
Median Google Maps rating (reviews)4.9 (508)

Per-city counts are on our city pages. The figures describe the page each company's Google listing links to; we cannot see where their ads land.

Who is in the data

Companies listed on Google Maps for HVAC searches in each city, with a website, that the Google Ads Transparency Center shows as advertisers. We measured one page per company: the page its Google listing links to. City pages group companies by the city we searched, which takes in nearby suburbs. It is a snapshot of advertisers, not of every contractor in a city.

What each number means

FigureHow it was measured
Time to show the main content on a phoneLargest Contentful Paint from Lighthouse with its mobile settings (a mid-range phone on a throttled connection, simulated). Measured for 4,562 sites. Runs where Lighthouse's own CPU benchmark showed a busy machine were thrown away and repeated.
No Google rating shownThe page's visible text shows no star rating (such as "4.9 stars" or "4.8/5") and no review count (such as "1,200 Google reviews"). A rating shown only as an image is missed, so this figure can run high.
No form on the pageThe page has no HTML form of any kind. A page with only a search box counts as having a form, so this figure can run low for contact forms.
Menu with 40 or more linksThe largest number of links inside one navigation or header block.
Google Maps rating and reviewsAs listed on Google Maps when we found the company.

Limits

  • One load of one page per company. Sites change, and a single run can catch a slow moment.
  • City samples are small (15 to 35 companies on our city pages), so city pages show counts such as "17 of 28" rather than percentages.
  • We report totals only. We never name a company as slow or lacking something.
